Manchester United are reportedly ‘convinced’ that they will be able to reach an agreement with Porto over the transfer of Alex Telles.

With just over a week of the transfer window to go, United are still trying to add to their single signing of Donny van de Beek before the October 5 deadline.

While Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho remains the top target, MEN Sport understands United stepped up plans to strengthen their defence following the opening day loss to Crystal Palace, a view that would have likely not been changed after their fortunate win over Brighton on Saturday.

The club had been monitoring a number of left-backs due to uncertainty in the position and it’s understood that signing one has become a more pressing concern.

Telles has emerged as a possible candidate and the Brazilian would offer a new dimension in attack, with 26 goals and 56 assists to his name in 193 games in Portugal.

There hasn’t appeared to be much progress in negotiations in the last week as United reportedly don’t want to pay a hefty price for a player who is in the final year of his contract but, according to Fabrizio Romano, the club are ‘convinced’ that they can find an agreement with Porto.

It’s claimed that it’s a ‘slow deal’ and that United are still working on it, though it’s also mentioned that other left-backs are under consideration.

One of those, MEN Sport understands, is Vitaliy Mykolenko of Dynamo Kiev.

Meanwhile, United have reportedly turned down the chance to sign Eintracht Frankfurt forward Filip Kostic.

The versatile Serbian impressed last season, contributing 12 goals and 18 assists, which has led to speculation that he could be in for a big move away from the Bundesliga.

According to StrettyNews, United were given the opportunity to sign Kostic for £27million, but the offer was met with a ‘straight no’ from the club.
