Man City are ‘convinced’ they will sign Jules Kounde and more transfer rumours

Manchester City are ‘convinced’ that they will sign Sevilla defender Jules Kounde this summer, according to reports.

With less than two weeks of the transfer window to go, City are still working on adding to their two signings of Ferran Torres and Nathan Ake before the October 5 deadline.

Another centre-back remains the top priority and the importance of signing one has been further proven this week, as City were without four of their defenders for the victory against Wolves – although Ake did impress on his debut.

Kalidou Koulibaly has been the number one target throughout the window but negotiations have proven difficult with Napoli as club president Aurelio di Laurentiis has refused to lower his asking price and the relationship between the two clubs remains frosty after the collapse of the Jorginho deal two years ago.

As a result, City have begun to look elsewhere and 21-year-old Kounde has emerged as an interesting alternative.

The Frenchman only joined Sevilla last summer but impressed as the La Liga side once again won the Europa League, and he is significantly younger than Koulibaly.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Kounde is ready to move to the Etihad and is just waiting for City to agree a fee with his club, with the Blues reportedly lining up a €65million offer. It’s added that City are ‘convinced’ that they will land their man.

M.E.N. Sport understands that City are also considering Jose Gimenez of Atletico Madrid as an alternative to Koulibaly.

Elsewhere in the chase for the Senegal international, Premier League champions Liverpool have reportedly reignited their interest in him.

Liverpool were another team to be heavily linked with Koulibaly but they have instead strengthened elsewhere this summer.

According to Le Parisien, via Get French Football News, Liverpool are working hard to convince Koulibaly to move to Anfield rather than Paris Saint-Germain.
