Liverpool new-boy Thiago Alcantara has hinted he’ll be available for the Merseyside Derby on Saturday afternoon. The £27million summer signing from Bayern Munich has missed the Reds’ last two Premier League matches.

The 29-year-old was absent from the Reds squad for their 3-1 victory over Arsenal last month due to concerns over his fitness.

And the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich man missed his new side’s 7-2 drubbing at the hands of Aston Villa after testing positive for COVID-19.

Thiago, however, did return to training earlier this week – much to the delight of the Anfield faithful.

And the midfielder was quick to send a message to Reds fans shortly after his return to training, albeit a very short one.

Liverpool will enter this weekend’s clash with Everton on the back of their biggest defeat in 57 years.

Klopp, understandably, was bitterly disappointed with his side’s mauling by Villa, saying: “It is not often I have seen games like this.

“Although I am old enough to know strange things can happen in football.

“You could see in moments that in challenges Aston Villa wanted it more and that is something I saw and I don’t like.

“Is it a one-off? I would like to think so but the proof of that will be in the next couple of weeks or months.

“A game like that should not happen, 100%. It is important how we react.

“The only problem is we cannot react tomorrow. These boys are very self-critical and they know everyone has his hand in this result.”
