Kevin Blackwell takes a back seat on transfers but Middlesbrough discussions continue
Kevin Blackwell insists his only focus this week has been on working with the players in the Boro squad rather than getting involved with efforts to add to the ranks.
With Neil Warnock finishing hisat home,Blackwell has been in charge at Rockliffe in the lead-up to today’s game at QPR.
And it’s the football Blackwell is focusing on, with the number two happy to take a back seat on transfers.
Not thathave taken a week off in the market. After completing the a little over a week ago, the club have continued to press for further additions and Warnock has been in constant discussions with chiefs from his Hurworth home.
Boro are still looking to add another striker to their ranks, but Blackwell was tight-lipped when quizzed on the other areas the club are trying to strengthen.
“I’m not dealing with that. I’m just dealing with the day-to-day at the football club,” he said.
“I’ve lost Neil, so I’ve been trying to look after the football club without trying to do transfers.
“We’ve been concentrating on the fitness of players and the game.
“People always ask me, ‘Blacky do you miss managing?’ To be honest, not really. This is the part I really don’t miss – doing the transfers.
“I leave that stuff to Neil and the club, and I know they’re working as hard as they can to try and get the right calibre of player in.
“As I’ve said before, I know this football club doesn’t want to sign just any player, it’s got to be the right player.”

Blackwell was asked whether Warnock’s absence has set Boro back at all in the transfer market.
“No, because I’m sure Neil has been talking with the chairman and discussing things there,” he said.
“I can honestly say I haven’t been involved this week so I can’t give you an update on that at this moment in time.”
