Galatasaray’s Norwegian defender Martin Linnes claimed a draw wasn’t a bad result.

He said: “We tried to do our best but it was a tough match for us.

“We weren’t able to reflect the mentality we have shown so far this season.

“We wanted three points but sometimes one is good.”

Steven Gerrard and Co head into the play-off clash in a confident mood after backing up their 4-0 win over Willem II on Thursday night with a five-star show at Motherwell.

James Tavernier and Cedric Itten both grabbed doubles as the Light Blues ran riot at Fir Park.

Jordan Jones also found the net in the 5-1 win.

All attention is now on Thursday’s massive game at Ibrox with the Light Blues just potentially 90 minutes away from a return to the Europa League proper.

Gerrard’s men have reached the group stages in the past two seasons and they will be out to make it three times on the trot when the Turkish giants visit Glasgow.

But the Liverpool legend knows his men face a tough test.

Speaking after the win over Motherwell, he said: “The most pleasing thing for us today was that it was on the back of a tough night on Thursday.

“Yes we won the game 4-0 but it certaintly wasn’t a 4-0 game.

“We’ve had to really empty the tank so to get that level of performance on the back of that I’m very pleased.

“Now we’ve got a little bit more time. We’ve got a day off tomorrow to recover and then we’ll start our preparations on Tuesday for Galatasaray.

“I’m sure they will be favourites, they are a massive team, a Champions League team who have world-class footballers.

“But we’re going to give it our best shout. We’re going to leave everything out there and see where it takes us.”
