Chelsea news: Frank Lampard’s key role in convincing Kai Havertz to complete £71m transfer | Football | Sport
Chelsea had a free run at Havertz thanks toand cooling their interest in this transfer window but still had a job in persuading him to quit Bayer Leverkusen.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder is the crown jewel in Lampard’s summer upgrading of his squad after last season’s fourth-place finish in the Premier League.
He follows Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr in signing on the dotted line, with further arrivals on the cards.
It has been a busy period for Lampard, but he found the time to make more than 10 phone calls to Havertz to discuss the transfer, according to transfer expert.
Havertz is one of the hottest prospects in world football having scored 46 goals in 150 appearances for Leverkusen.
