Thomas Partey is reportedly keen on signing for Arsenal this window but Atletico Madrid are not willing to drop their valuation of the 27-year-old and will make a request to the north Londoners.

Mikel Arteta has made recruiting a new central midfielder his top priority this summer.

And Partey has made his way to the top of the Gunners’ wishlist, but he will not be allowed to leave for any less than his £45million release clause.

Arsenal are considering including Lucas Torreira in the package for Partey to reduce the upfront cost.

But Atletico are not interest in signing the 24-year-old on a permanent basis.

Goal claims the La Liga giants have requested that negotiations for Torreira are done separately as they are only open to talks over a loan move.

“I think they’ve been really good since I joined the club,” Arteta said.

“Not only then but also this season, [Ceballos] deserved to play again today but I just wanted to rotate.

“I thought it was a game where we were going to attack the spaces and the way they defended, we wanted to create some situations with Dani there but if we can strengthen the team then we’re going to try and do that.

“Until the market is gone, everything is still open.

“Depending on what happens with some other players… as I say again, we are open to discussions, the market can surprise us.”

Arsenal announced the signing of goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson on Monday evening for a fee of around £1.5m.
