Arsenal transfer news LIVE: Houssem Aouar, Thomas Partey, Mesut Ozil, Lucas Torreira
Both players would command a fee of at least £45m, and Arsenal must slim down their squad before they begin to bring in further reinforcements. Atletico Madrid are interested inand have agreed personal terms with the midfielder, but want to sell Hector Herrera before attempting to agree a deal with Arsenal.
Meanwhile, and Matteo Guendouzi’s absences remain unsolved issues, with both left out Arsenal’s Carabao Cup victory against Leicester. Arteta admitted that it is “very difficult” to see a situation in which the German playmakers works himself back into the first-team squad. Defender Calum Chambers is subject to loan interest from West Ham. Here are the latest news, rumours and updates surrounding the Emirates:
VICKERY SURPRISED BY TORREIRA MOVE
South American football expert, Tim Vickery, has told the Sky Sports News Transfer Show that he’s surprised Arsenal are willing to let Lucas Torreira leave.
Spanish outlet AS have reported that the Uruguayan is close to securing a move to Atletico Madrid and Vickery believes Torreira could still be ‘very useful’ to Arsenal.
The Gunners signed the midfielder in 2018 when they paid Italian outfit Sampdoria £26 million.
“Atletico Madrid with Diego Simeone would be such a great fit,” Vickery told Sky Sports. “It’s a side with a Uruguayan ethic.
“Lucas Torreira’s a little pac-man in the midfield. Biting up everything in front of him. Dominating the space there. You’d think that he deserves a club, with all due respect to Torino, a little bit more competitive.
“My surprise here perhaps is that Arsenal are prepared to let him go. I wonder what Arsenal fans think about this because he has always looked to me to be a player who is very useful to the cause.”

ARSENAL SPARK JORGINHO INTEREST
Sky Sports News’ Transfer Talk claim that Arsenal have added Chelsea’s Jorginho to their list of possible midfield signings.
With any deal for Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar depending on Arsenal raising at least £45 million the club are looking elsewhere for midfield options.
The Gunners have already brought in Willian from Chelsea this summer and are considering a move for the midfielder.
Mikel Arteta was part of the Manchester City staff when the club came close to signing the Brazilian in 2018 before he eventually joined Chelsea and the Arsenal boss is obviously a fan.

BRIGHTON LOOKING FOR BALOGUN OPTIONS
Brighton have been linked with a move for Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun but it now looks unlikely for the striker to be heading to the south coast.
Sheffield United are also in the race for the 19-year-old and after seeing the Blades’ initial £3 million offer turned down, Brighton are having a re-think.
According to SussexLive, Brighton are understood to be exploring different options for a new striker, although Seagulls boss Graham Potter has insisted that his focus is currently on working with the players he has got at the club.
Brighton have won their last three games in all competitions, scoring nine goals without conceding in two Carabao Cup fixtures and a 3-0 victory against Newcastle in the Premier League.

‘MESSI WAS UNTOUCHABLE’ SAYS WENGER
The story that Lionel Messi was considering a move to Arsenal in 2003 broke earlier in the week and the then Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has had his say.
He told BeIN sports that he had approached Barcelona about Messi when he signed Cesc Fabregas but even back then Messi was ‘untouchable’.

GUNNERS DEALT BLOW IN FUNDRAISING
Arsenal are desperate to open up funds so that they can actively make a bid for either Houssem Aouar or Thomas Partey this summer.
Emiliano Martinez’s sale to Aston Villa brought £20 million to the club and a potential sale of Shkodran Mustafi to Lazio was set to net the Gunners another £11 million.
However, according to the Daily Express, Arsenal have been dealt a blow as Lazio’s interest in Mustafi has waned as they’ve shifted their focus to Southampton’s Wesley Hoedt.
This will be a big blow to Arsenal’s plans for the season, but the Gunners can sell him to other suitors.

BLADES AFTER BALOGUN
Sheffield United are still in the hunt to sign Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun before the transfer window closes in October.
Arsenal are in no rush to sell the 19-year-old striker as they have already turned down a £3 million offer from Blades according to reports.
Yorkshire Live understands Sheffield United believe there is a deal to be done for Balogun after ‘positive discussions’, with Arsenal revealing they will consider offers.
Chris Wilder is keen to see this deal get over the line and will continue to put pressure on the board to make it happen.

ARSENAL STILL NEED PLAYERS
Former Arsenal player, Kevin Campbell believes Mikel Arteta needs to sign one or two more players in this transfer window in order to compete for the top prizes.
He told talkSPORT 2: “I think a lot of Arsenal fans will say ‘yeah, we love that but add a few more to the squad please.’
“That will support our squad a lot more because I think when you get past that first XI, we’re quite thin but if we get a couple of quality midfielders in then we’ll be all right.”
The Gunners have made a fast start to the 2020/21 season, winning both of their Premier League matches as well as their Carabao Cup tie at Leicester last night.
They are targeting Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar and if one of those signings come in it will be a good window for the Gunners.

TORREIRA/PARTEY SWAP NOT AN OPTION
Arsenal will not be using Lucas Torreira in a swap deal for Thomas Partey despite Atletico Madrid keen on signing the midfielder.
Atletico are willing to let Partey go this summer but they don’t see Torreira as a replacement and are instead waiting for an asking price offer.
The 27-year-old has been a key part of Diego Simeone’s Rojiblancos side over the past four La Liga campaigns, helping them to the final of the Champions League in 2016 and to Europa League glory in 2018.
Fabrizio Romano insisted that the Gunners will not be able to use Torreira in a swap deal which means he will have to be sold separately.
On the Here We Go Podcast, he said: “The answer, in this moment, is no because Atletico are convinced they are different players, not just tactical ways [but] about how important they are for their clubs.
“Torreira is out of Arsenal, he’s going to leave. Thomas Partey is one of the best midfielders for Simeone, so it’s a different situation.
“That’s why they say – if you want Thomas, you have to pay the release clause or nothing. [Arsenal] need to sell Torreira.”

COUTINHO TO RETURN TO PREMIER LEAGUE?
The Daily Express are reporting that Arsenal are still thinking about making an offer to bring Philippe Coutinho back to the Premier League.
They say the Gunners were expected to offer Barcelona a loan deal for the former Liverpool star after he returned to the Nou Camp following a season-long loan at Bayern Munich last season.
No bid came in but the Express say that Arsenal are considering one before the transfer window closes in October.
New Barca boss Ronald Koeman is adamant that he wants to get the best out of Coutinho, however, with Memphis Depay reportedly a target for the Spanish giants, Barca chiefs could decide to let Coutinho leave in order to make way.
Coutinho still has three years to run on his current deal, and Barcelona are unwilling to sell him on a permanent deal for less than £64million which is why Arsenal are preparing a loan move.
Any permanent move for Coutinho would be more viable next summer when the Gunners will finally be able to get Mesut Ozil off their books.

AOUAR READY FOR PREMIER LEAGUE
Houseem Aouar is ready to join the Premier League with Arsenal the favourites to sign him from Lyon.
The Gunners have been pursuing Aouar for most of the summer but they have to raise the funds necessary to meet his €60million asking price.
Something Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano, says they can only do if they sell some players.
Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast Romano said:
“Obviously the club that is working to sign Aouar is Arsenal,
“We have to say that Arsenal are convinced that if they could sell some players, and they have many in [Sead] Kolasinac, Sokratis [Papastathopoulos] and [Lucas] Torreira, many players to sell or loan out in the last two weeks, they can try again for Aouar.
“Lyon are asking for €60million, so it’s complicated but the player would be ready to join the Premier League, would be ready to join Arsenal.
“The player would like to come to the Premier League and to join Arsenal but for now there are no negotiations.
“In July they offered Guendouzi as part of the deal and they didn’t find an agreement.
“Now it’s up to Arsenal if they sell players, I am convinced [they will bid again].”
