Arsenal transfer news: Houssem Aouar agrees to join Arsenal with Edu in talks over fee | Football | Sport
Houssem Aouar has reportedly agreed to join, permitting they can strike a deal with Lyon. The Gunners have made Aouar one of their top transfer targets this summer alongside Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey.
Mikel Arteta has been well aware of the Frenchman since his time working with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
In November 2018 he congratulated the player on his performance after starring in Lyon’s 2-2 draw with City in the Champions League group stages.
Now Aouar is on the club’s shortlist after showing his quality once again for Lyon in upsets against Juventus and Manchester City.
Arsenal have already had a player-plus-cash offer including Matteo Guendouzi rejected for the 22-year-old.
Arsenal are now set to reopen talks with Lyon over a fee with the Ligue 1 club demanding £54million.
Lyon chief Juninho has already told compatriot and Arsenal sporting director Edu that they will not consider a swap deal for Aouar.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims Arteta is ready to launch another bid if he can clear the decks and offload some fringe players.
“Obviously the club that is working to sign Aouar is Arsenal,” Romano said on the Here We Go podcast.
