Arsenal make Jack Wilshere decision as star looking for next club after West Ham exit | Football | Sport

Perhaps even more crucial than the financial aspect of any move, however, would be that Wilshere has made it clear he wants regular minutes at his next club.

He said in his statement upon quitting West Ham: “I have been fully fit for a large period of time at the club, including over the last course of the last eight months – training hard every day – but unfortunately have not been given the opportunity to play.”

But with Partey, Granit Xhaka, Dani Ceballos, Mohamed Elneny, Bukayo Saka, Joe Willock, Emile Smith Rowe and Ainsley Maitland-Niles all as options in midfield, Mikel Arteta has ample competition for places already.

In conversation with talkSPORT last week, Wilshere hinted that he may look to move abroad as he searches for a new club.

He said: “I thought maybe I would get more of a chance this year but I was thankful to him [David Moyes] that he made it clear to me that I wasn’t [in his plans] and it was probably in my best interests that I left and tried to find something else, so I did and here I am.

“I have been fit since February and I am ready to go. I knew I wasn’t going to play at West Ham and could have stayed and sat there but I thought I couldn’t lose another year of my career.”
