Adrian Peterson released from Washington Football Team

In a surprise move, the Washington Football Team released running back Adrian Peterson.

The Washington Football Team released running back Adrian Peterson, the team announced Friday morning.

The surprise move comes as NFL teams trim their rosters from 80 players to 53 by 4 p.m. Saturday. After the release of Derrius Guice, the 35-year-old Peterson appeared to be the favorite to start at running back.

Instead, new head coach Ron Rivera will to turn to younger running backs, including third-round pick Antonio Gibson and 2019 fourth-rounder Bryce Love.

During training camp, Peterson spoke of wanting to stay healthy and play five more years.
